Dear Facebook, please take my money!

A tale of entrepreneurship, a more connected(supposedly) world, empty slogans, the antithesis of customer service in the SaaS era, and monopoly power that corrupts.

Let us not pretend that before the events described in this article transpired, it was all rosy between me and Facebook. Some of the recent turning points in my perception of Facebook are mentioned at the end of the article, but there was no major beef between us. I had worked in the past with sharp freshly minted MBA grads fueling Facebook's Sales team ranks. I was impressed with their ability to convince CEOs and business managers to push more money into new “creative” ad formats. I have obviously used the platform myself and without Whatsapp — nobody would get ahold of me, ever.

Having worked for a massive global company, I believe there is no evil in corporations, just sloppy process, employees who don’t care enough to take that extra hour away from their family, and managers with a tunnel vision on a set of cascaded KPIs. Facebook was no different in my view. They are just running a business, providing service to people, maybe some of their performance metrics are getting that extra kick of outrage and fear, but still, a business delivering a service in a market economy.
